Are they aware of my contract?

This relates to my Emotional stupid thread. But I keep getting these attractive women asking me and hinting that they are interested in me. Most of them are the women are teachers, I work in P.E and most of them are quite good looking. Do they realize that in my contract it specifically states that I can't get involved in any kind of "personal relationship". I know I could most likely fool around with one but getting fired or dismissed over one would be a pretty big bummer. (Worse yet make the next big Korean scandal on Waeguk teachers sleeping with coworkers)

Do Korean teachers know about contracts that we have to sign?

PS.

I'm a realist so I keep thinking to myself:
I am not a prize catch so I have no idea why a hottie would be even remotely attracted to me.

You actually have a contract that says you can't have personal relationships with the your co-workers. I can see that being true with students in many cases, but your co-workers. I hope it is like that for any Korean man or woman in your school too. And are you saying that you can't have relationships with any foreign workers as well? More details please.

I met "personal relationship" as intimate I should have worded that better. Yes that mean Korean and foreigner alike. Since I am the only foreigner anyway I don't think that will be a huge problem.

When I use to work for "big iron" back home I had a very similar stipulation in my contract. In fact back home its more or less a defacto.

I have the same clause. Are they really going to give a crap if you violate it -- mine clearly couldn't care less. Plenty of schools seem to have little awareness of what is or isn't in the contract.

Someone had mentioned in the job related forum that that clause in your contract about not allowing relationship with co-worker is against the Korean labor law.

The logic is that it's discrimination against race if the Korean co-workers don't have that same clause or stipulation in their contract so why should only us waygooks have to have that clause.

That's a pretty freaky clause. I wouldn't have signed it personally. Even though I'm generally against dating coworkers.

Yeah, I figured that was what you meant. That's too bad, I haven't worked at a job with that kind of clause in the five years I've been here and have known many couples who've dated in the work place, dating other foreigners or Koreans.

It doesn't bother me that I can't date any one at work. I frankley find it unethical plus I know the caveats of dating and working with some one. I just don't want to seem like a complete ass and a jerk to the interested ladies. I do have a conversation club I guess I can sneek it into the conversation some how.

Because there is some kind of conflict of interest. The students might get upset that you like your co-worker more than them...or perhaps management will think that you're not concentrating fully on work..

I dated a coworker out here. It ended up beign a big secret because it was so taboo. Finaly the directors wife found out and they made trouble for her. I felt really bad.

My advice, you probably wont get fired, but maybe her life will be made crappy by her bosses. So if she is willing its ok, but dont make it public to other coworkers. Be carful!

Ah, go for it. Those kinds of clauses are meant to be broken.

If you teach at a public school you can conceal it pretty easily, unless it's your co-teacher since the other teachers are in their rooms all the time. But at a hogwan you're together all the time and it's difficult to act oblivious to each other.
