It's a little late for halloween but I thought this one up today to fill some time. It's kind of based on a phone mind reading trick called "Is the Wizard there?"
Anyway, you tell the class you have a psychic friend. He can read minds over the cell phone. Draw 4 symbols on the black board:
A triangle
A star
A square
A wavy line
You get the class to pick one. Maybe pick two students. Get them to each pick one and have the class vote on the final shape.
So lets say the class picks a star.
You then call your psychic friend (via your cell phone). You hand the phone to one of the students and tell him to ask for "Mr Wizard".
The student asks for Mr Wizard and Mr Wizard says "the class picked a star". Any skeptical student can also talk to Mr Wizard and Mr Wizard will tell them "the class picked star".
Amazing!
How the trick is done.
Before hand, arrange with another teacher the following. You will call him (or her). You arrange this code:
If the class picks a triangle, tell the student to ask for the Witch.
If the class picks a star, tell the student to ask for the Wizard.
If the class picks a square, tell the student to ask for the Psychic.
If the class picks a wavy line, tell the student to ask for Mr. Magic.
So when the student calls and asks for the witch/wizard/psychic, or mr magic, your "confederate" will be able to match up the asked for name with the symbol picked.
You can also add a few more symbols like a diamond and an X plus appropriate names... the Sorcerer, the Warlock, or whatever. More symbols makes the trick seem even more amazing. |
