The ad says the contract is for 10 months but severance is only payed if you renew the contract after a year. Is that even legal? Sketchy? Would you take the job?

I see the working hours but how about actual teaching contact ones? And, if you teach 2 yrs will you get severance for both years? If you did and the contact hours were 20 or less I'd say it was a pretty good deal. Plus, you get a nice two month break to travel to a third world country and relax while you live cheap... |

They are hiring for the academic year (March - December) hence the 10 month contract. At 10 months there is no severance payable. You need to be on the payroll for more than 365 days to be eligible.
If you sign for a 2nd year you will get 1 month of severance pay for each FULL 12 month period that you were employed. If you sign 2 x 10 month contracts you will be eligible for 1 month severance when you leave.
Actually you will be eligible after your severance after the 12th month of employment even if you do NOT complete the 2nd contract.
It is NOT nice but it is NOT illegal either. |
