Isn't it interesting how when the Dixie Chics gave the president modest criticism (One member at a concert said she was ashamed to have Bush as President) , all hell broke loose. All the radio & TV stations have kept an on-going ban on them.

Neil Young makes a new song called Impeach The President and no one says anything.

What's your opinion on the media's very different reactions?

Neil's cooler?

No, seriously, it's about thier fan base. The Dixie Chicks said something that goes against the beliefs of thier fan base, and Neil said something his fan base is likely to agree with.

That makes a lot of sense. I was thinking the answered lied with Neil's status as an established star. The Dixie Chics are not establiched like him. I think had it been George Strait instead of the Dixie Chics, he too wouldn't have been attacked (because of his status).

Yes. He's also old and more respected than the Dixie Chicks. Also, folk music, which he's more closely connected to, is more open to protest than country music.

I'm vaguely aware of who the Dixie Chicks are and the controversy they stirred up, but who are the Dixie Sheeks? Are they from the south of France or something?

If I'm not mistaken, Neil Young is no longer Canadian. He's a naturalized American.

Neil Young vs. Dixie Chicks

Canadian (born) - American
Old - young (sort of)
Ugly -- attractive (to me)
went to woodstock -- didn't go to woodstock
sings alone -- sings in a group

wow, that was fun, thanks Dev. Can anyone add more?

Couldn't give a rat's a$$ about radio play or record sales - relies on it
Worth buying his legitimate cds (or even better, vinyl) - pirate cd or
download okay.

Would fight Toby Keith and maybe even win - All 3 woman = no match
for Toby Keith

Would be fun to party with in his tour bus - Would be a good time on the bus only if whisky and strip poker were involved. Very Happy

Actually I did remember CSN&Y (they played at Woodstock) but forgot about Crazy Horse. Do they back him up, or is he part of the group?

One thing both have in common, I don't listen to either one.
