I know being anonymous is next to impossible here, but does anyone know of a bar where i could just sit, have a couple drinks and read a book without being bothered by hostesses demanding i buy them drinks/drunken businessmen wanting to talk to me. |

If all you want to do is drink and read a book, why don't you just stay at home? |

There are plenty. What section of town are you in? Check Pusanweb.com for more info about Busan. The guides on tehre are old, but just post a message on the forums with your locale and someone will be able to tell ou about some nice bars. |

by gum...I seriously CANNOT imagine an easier task unless your apartment is right in the heart of Texas street.
Here's what I would suggest (again, assuming you aren't living on texas street...or perhaps yeonsan dong)
1) walk around your neighbourhood.
2) get on a side road
3) look for a chain bar
4) enter
5) sit
6) drink and read |

The phrase "Hone ja iko sheepoyo" (I'd like to be alone) comes in handy for me- if you want to be more polite about telling someone to leave you alone, put "Chesunhamneeda" at the beginning of the phrase. |

I'm just travelling at the moment (i start work in a week) and the place i'm staying it is right off texas street. Seemed like a fun party area from my reading but its just depressing. |

That place is pathetic. There are some good bars around the university area (as would be in any town). I recommend Soul Train. It's a wester style bar and you could sit there and read and no one would bother you. They have a pool table as well. Been there only once, so I don't remember how to get there. Maybe someone else does. |

Aigooo
Complaining about being talked to by saucy hostesses in revealing clothing...what is the world coming too. I suggest going to the banana bar where all the other gays hang out |

SoulTrane is starting to pick up a bit. On weekdays, I would suggest going to Crossroads....directions on pusanweb. |

If you live near Texas street the closest place I can think of that you might enjoy is near Kyangsang University. It's called Ol'55. It's got a really relaxed atmosphere most nights except Friday and Saturday nights.
Or if you dont care about foreigner bars, check out any random beer mart. Those places have cheap beer and are pretty tame. |

Slep...I think the question is how come you ended up in hostess bars only????
Seriously dude...you can find the type of place you are looking for easily in Busan.
You could also try coffee shops if you want to read and relax....why choose a bar is beyond me. |

Travel isn't just about "obvious" experience that you can brag about to others. Travel is about how a change in atmosphere can alter your perception of the things you take for granted. Perhaps the general atmosphere of a bar (dim lighting, background noise, background music, mild intoxication) provides an effective catalyst for the creative side of the brain that gives an added dimension to the experience of reading.
Furthermore, with familiarity and routine broken, people do things when they travel that they would not normally do back at home ... for better or worse. |
