Hi,
Just been to the dentist (Navid Dental Clinic) to see about a broken tooth. Thought I might need an extraction but they think they can salvage it; great!
How bloody much???
They can either do root cannal treatment which (as that is covered by Korean insurance) will cost about W50,000 but then they would need to cap it (W300,000-W400,000) then peg it (W150,000). Total about W550,000. Or they can do a resin inlay (fancy filling) which could cost W250,000. Then they say I would need lengthening gum surgey (W100,000-W200,000).
They also think about four other teeth need similar treatment?
The other teeth can wait for some NHS treatment later, but the broken tooth really needs fixing but should it really cost that much?
Have I wandered into a fancy clinic which will rip me off or is this the actual cost of dental treatment here in Korea?
Can anyone recomend a cheaper dentist?
Has anyone any information about free/discounted treatment done by students? Does such a program exist?
I really can't afford $500 to fix one tooth, let alone the months of other treatment they are suggesting.
Help! |

Ask your Korean co teachers where the nearest large hosital is. Go there and go to the Dentist section. They all have one. Much cheaper and more conscientious.
I had root canal in gangnam at a private surgery. By the way, not as bad as it's made out to be. Cost about 30,000 with initial appointment, two seesions to do the surgery and then post op treatment. They just put the temporary filling in though. It's been 3 years and I never even had it crowned... Wouldn't reccomend that though, I'm just lazy and cheap. But they say the temp one is god for a year anyway, so in that time you could shop around for a bargain or go on vacation to Thailand and get it chaper there...
Had an extraction also at the big Hospital in Ilsan. Two sessions and then post op stitch removal, was so cheap I can't even remember the ammounts.
Could call SNU and speak to the people at the foriegners hospital there, (number is on their website) they are so friendly and would probably do it at the cheapest possible price. Only reason I didn't (I did speak to them though) was because of the urgency and the distance - I lived in Ilsan at the time.
Good luck... |

| Holy smokes, that's cheap compared to Canada. You can expect to pay at least $2000 for a root canal and crown. |
