Hi I could use your input. My recruiter insists that I must go to immigration with my current boss and show a release letter so I can take a new job when my current one ends. I had always understood that you only needed the letter if you left your employment before the end of the contract. ?????
Thanks in advance

If you finish your contract early, and you are still under a Visa from your current employee, then that is correct. If you finish and there is no time left on your visa, then you are free to go without a letter.

Some immigration offcies have actually asked to see a letter of release before issuing a new E-2 visa even though the teacher had completed their previous contract and their E-2 visa had expired.

Unfortunately, immigration offices are well known for not being consistant. If you are still having problems contact the head office in Seoul and get them to contact which ever immigration office you're using and set them straight.

I've done this many times and it has always worked for me.

Seoul Immigration Office
#319-2, Shinjeong 6-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul
