China wins plaudits for success over N Korea

If Chinese diplomats are pleased with themselves for orchestrating North Korea�s surprise return to the international negotiating table, they are hardly crowing about it.

Beijing�s foreign ministry has restricted its comments on Pyongyang�s agreement to new six-party talks to a terse one-paragraph statement issued late on Tuesday.

But there is no doubt that China has scored a diplomatic success by reviving Beijing-based multilateral negotiations with the two Koreas, the US, Japan and Russia.
