What's the legal drinking age in Korea? What time are they allowed to serve to? any other restrictions?

The laws are not enforced here, whatever they may be.

If you're out of high school you're pretty much golden.

As far as operating hours go, you can find a place that serves alcohol pretty much 24/7/365 if you live in an urban area. You can purchase pacakge alcohol around the clock as well.

Most joints close around 3 or 4, but some busy bars and clubs will run until 6 AM at times, though there are several run off dives that will stay open until 12:00 if people are still drinking.

19

Until you leave their establishment. In the case on convenience stores, they sell alcohol 24 hours a day.

Nope.

Is drinking on the street actually legal or just a popularized myth and people are too afraid to say anything to you about it? Been curious about that one lately.

Probably illegal, but never...and I mean NEVER enforced. They'd have 25% of the population of Seoul in the tank by 8:00 on a Friday night if they did.

Yeah I know, do imbibe occasionally when rather plastered in public, such as in taxis or going between bars. Nobody ever says anything but I had some white people give me the stinkeye one afternoon. That was awesome!

That's true as far as my experiences go, but...

I don't usually SEE Koreans drinking on the street or walking around with bottles in hand. Usually they are sitting at a table out front of a small store, or maybe sitting in a park under a tree. I might be splitting hairs here, but even though they are drinking in public, they are stationary. You are more likely to see foreigners actually WALKING about with drinks in hand, or carrying drinks from club to club.

One thing I love about this country is that no one really cares about people drinking outside. And why should they if you're a responsible dude?

It's illegal in my country because of the few idiots that can't handle their alcohol.

The 19 drinking age more likely is in Korean age.

I have a picture of a cop standing in the park next to a couple of my friends who are openly drinking.

I've heard from several of my elementary students that on Chuseok day they had a glass of beer with their dad. I kind of doubt it, but with these particular students, it would be a hoot to see them ripped.

Why would you doubt that? It's not even illegal at home.

Coming from the restricted laws in the "free" US, I love walking down the street with beer in hand.

I have often walked around with a bottle of bud in my hand. (once did in Gangnam) Koreans almost never do it.
