Hey all,

This is really lame of me, but I just can't find where to buy simple stationary and envelops (maybe even air mail envelops). The owner of the hostel I am staying at suggested a post office, and I tried that skeptically and no dice. I figure if I headed to a big shopping area I could track it down, but is there a commonly found store that might sell what I am looking for? In the US, I would just pick it up at any old drug store or supermarket. I am near Hapjeong station near Hongdae if that is relevent.

Thanks for the help as always!

There is a chain of stationery stores called "Morning Glory" and you can get a variety of stationery, paper, and art supplies there.

Sorry, I don't know of one in your area.

Just go to Sinchon and try some of the stores around there. Look for school supplies if you really need. Paper really is not hard to find.

Go to Shinchon Station, and out exit 6, you'll see a big stationery store right there called Alpha that will be able to handle all of your paper needs. Sorry I don't know of a place in Hapjeong.

Oh, and when I was new I had trouble finding paper, too. I was doing all of my writing in sketch pads meant for little kids for months.

Now I do all of my writing in a notebook that says "Playing With Myself" on the cover.

Welcome to Korea.

I wanted to write a "thank you" note, and it took me some time to find plain paper (that is, paper without cartoons, or Konglish). It was to an adult, to an adult English teacher, so I wanted to avoid that kind of garbage . . . but I think people back home would get a kick out of that kitschiness.

Not sure where you are, but you can try the above suggestions about "Morning Glory." If you're anywhere off the farm, you can walk around for a few blocks and you'll see a stationary store. Often they'll have "cute" stuff out front or in the windows---stuffed animals, trinkets, bags---but they have art supplies and paper. There are 4 such shops in my little town.

Failing that, try Emart, Homever, and other big box stores like that. They have the supplies you need.

Alpha is awesome!

Where did you find the "playing with myself" notebook?

I do...My dear old Mum isn't really very internet savvy, so I write her long letters about once a month and she really enjoys them. There can be pleasure in actually sitting down to write by hand.

Anyway..here in Chuncheon there seem to be loads of stationers....but other than that just go to GS mart or E mart. Don't forget to buy a tube/container of glue...as they don't use self-sealing envelopes here!

My mom checks her email more than I do despite her general technical ineptitude. But there is definetly something nice about writing a letter by hand, as well as a great feeling of getting it unexpectedly in the mail. It makes for a much better surprise than an email if you correspond with someone regularly.

Also thanks for the suggestions from everyone. It is one of those small things that seems stupidly easy, but I just haven't come across any, and it is hard to get specific directions from random people. Thanks again all.
