UK youths 'among worst in Europe'

British youngsters have a reputation for heavy drinking

Britain's teenagers are among the most badly behaved in Europe, a study by a think-tank has suggested. On every indicator of bad behaviour - drugs, drink, violence, promiscuity -the UK was at or near the top, said the Institute for Public Policy Research

Yeah, I was reading about this this morning. The 'think tanks' are suggesting that it is due to the fact that youths hang out together much more in Britain without the influence of adults. In France and some other European countries adults and children socialise together. Whereas in Britain, adults socialise in exclusively adult environments, like pubs. Also, where countries have a good welfare system and put social concerns high on their priorities (say Scandanavia) the adults are able to spend a lot more time with their children. Unfortunately, since Thatcher, Britain has gone the way of the US, and we now have the longest working hours in Europe. This has played havoc with family life.

Another factor is that Britain (like the US) doesn't have in place a blanket sex education policy - and each school does what it likes. There is a clear correlation between good sex education and low rates of teenage pregnancy and STDs and also the average of putting off your virginity.

England's descent into 3rd world rankings continues. First they lost the empire then the country imploded. It lost direction, self respect..morality..it lost god education, healthcare, traditions, respect for elders...purpose. yeah..basically England has no purpose anymore.

The role models and values of society have become negative: crime, rebelliousness and general degeneracy is cool. Its in. A country deemed unglamorous by all others is trying to find a cool happening identity but it can't. Next door you have the sexy Irish with their charming character and glorious military and now economic revolution. You have the Scots with their exciting braveheart identity. But England..is neither here nor there anymore. They still try to keep a sense of self-importance by hanging off americas coat tails, but essentially this vacuum has trickled down to the youth who have become completely separated from their national identity, pride or history...and exist only to staunch their sense of hopelessness in drinking, drug taking, idiotic football hooliganism or shagging. They know that their nation passed its peak decades back and its all downhill from now.

Not all of us are fortunate enough to hail from as glamourous a location as Rhodesia. Congratulations on being from the worst pit of the English-speaking world (do you even speak English, or do you speak that clicking Afrikaans that's so popular with the ladeez?) - you're qualified to comment. Laughing
