If I want really good public transporation then I should be near Seoul?
I'm guessing some places are to spread out to make public transportation practical.
I read a post where someone said you need a car in Changwon for example.

Seoul, Busan, Daegu, etc have subway systems. Seoul's is the most extensive and pretty much goes everywhere you could generally need. It's rare you have to hop a bus or taxi.

In general, I'd say if your apartment and school are near any subway line in any city and the city has a Starbucks, you're golden. |

You'll be amazed at the inter-city bus system. Even the little dinky town of 7,000 people where I lived last year had 4 daily buses to Seoul.
You can go almost anywhere in the country by bus. Cheaply. |

I'm also interested in local transportation. I recently had to ride the bus in KC when my car was broke. With all the stops it took 40 minutes for what would normally be a 15 minute car ride. -Jeff |

I can assure you, you don't need a car in Changwon...the public transportation system is excellent. I caught the bus 4 times yesterday and i live in Changwon..
However none of it is in English so you will have to learn how to read Korean to use it properly |

And cheap too. 90 cents. Compare that to a subway/bus ride in Japan or North America. |

I'm in Korea now. I took the bus to Wonju. I remember I got change back from 10000 but I'm not sure. It might have been 6000. The city bus in Wonju was 950 and the bus gives you change. In Kansas City you had to have exact change. Change on a bus? Wow.
I wish they had a day pass where you could ride unlimited for one fee.
The last bus out of town was at 6 PM so if you want to stay later you have to get a hotel.
