Forbes magazine last year ranked Denver as the best U.S. city for singles. I've gotten a bit intrigued about the place, though I know that the Forbes poll is often whacked, as it's ranked Washington, D.C., of all places, as the best.

Fill me in, thanks.

Denver rocks. It is one of my favorite US cities. I'm not sure why it rates the city as being best for singles over other cities, but you sure can find any and all types of people in Denver. The LoDo part of Denver is filled with middle-upper class honeys who like to dress nice, same thing with the Cherry Creek area. The Colfax area has the punks, the bums and the hippies. The Denver U. part has lots of students, the western section has the Latinos, the five points have the African-Americans and the Cheesman park area has the gays.

The best think about Denver, in my opinion, is that it is safer in the center of Denver than it is in the suburbs. The people have an air of respect and well-being and even the lowly people, like the crackheads, never seemed to cause much trouble. The second best thing about Denver is that you an hour to an an hour and a half away from the nation's best slopes.

PM me if you have specific questions.

I never lived in Denver, but I lived near it for 7 years. It's not a bad place to live. You do have to have a high tolerance for health nuts and people who think anyone who moved there after they did should go back to where they came from.

(It was a looong time ago that I lived there, so I don't have anything current to say.)

Really?

North Carolina's great, but Denver is so small it's barely on the map. I would've gone with Wilmington, myself..

You are surprised that DC is so highly ranked? How many cities have more singles than DC? None that I'm aware of. Swamped with 20something yr olds there on internships, starting out careers in gov't, law, etc etc.

I grew up around the DC area and don't care to ever live there again, though I might go back for family reasons. The people aren't that friendly and I personally preferred the peeps in New York. A lot of my friends agreed DC is a really tough place to hook up because people are too damn picky about who they date and such.

Denver, I just found out, has topped the Forbes list for THREE years in a row. Here's the top 20.

1 Denver-Boulder
2 Boston
3 Phoenix
4 San Francisco-Oakland
5 New York
6 Raleigh-Durham
7 Seattle
8 Austin
9 Washington-Baltimore
10 Miami
11 Columbus
12 Philadelphia
13 Sacramento
14 Minneapolis-St Paul
14 New Orleans
16 Atlanta
17 Milwaukee
18 San Diego
19 Los Angeles
20 Providence
