Gross. A young Korean guy sneezed right on my face on the subway. Whats with that? I gasped, pulled my sweater over my face and resigned my seat. I just don't get it..

Is it that hard to put your hand over your face Mr Kim?

I do, even when I yawn.

The subway is like one gigantic cold/flu capsule.

Dude that sucks. You should have spit back in his face. As for the germ capsul thing, I agree. And working with kids all day doesnt help either. Their dirty little hands are always offering me gross shrimp chips or mashed up dry ramen. I need a hazmat suit.

I would have had serious words with that guy. The general disregard for politeness and sanitation is one thin I will never get used to here. Anyone who hocks a lugie (sp?), sneezes without covering their mouth, doesn't wash their hands after the bathroom, uses the bathroom in public (especially at the table in a restaurant)--all these people get nasty looks from me if not a comment. Sorry, but I know that bad manners are more accepted here, but I do know plenty of Koreans who think that behavior is disgusting.
Did they completely miss germ theory here?

Kimchi kills all harmful germs. Haven't you been paying attention? I'm sure that what hit the OP was completely sterile mucous.

Had some aujulshi do something like that to me on a flight to the states. He's standing in the bulkhead behind my seat chatting at full volume with his fellow aujulshis. Bad enough, but . . fair enough, he has a right to do that. The guy coughs directly on the top of my head, moving my hair. I let him by with it, giving him one mistake. He does it again a few minutes later, and I turn to look at him. He doesn't even know why I'm looking at him, giving me "what the . . " look. A few minutes later, it's the same thing and I'm up out of my seat and tearing into him in English, then a bit of choppy Korean (I don't exactly have the vocab for that situation!). That put an end to his coughing and the group standing there talking. My row partners, a couple from Dominican Republic, thanked me and settled into their seats for the nap they had been trying to take.

(While we're on the plane etiquette: Hate it when Koreans knock on the door of the toilet on the airplanes. It's like, "Yo, . . . I put up with that on your turf, but leave that stuff on the concourse! Welcome to the world!")

CabbageTownRoyals - yer obviously a complete freakin' newbie.

He had Kimchi for breakfast. All germs dead. All cancer....gone. Ulcers...kaput. 'roids...reduced to pimples. You can't get sick from someone sneezing on you if they've eaten kimchi. Even tooth cavities magically repair themselves.

GAWD!!! Everybody knows THAT!
