My boss is telling me that I must go with him to the visa office to cancel my work here. My contract is finished. I am leaving on Saturday Nov 11. My visa and alien card doesn't expire until Nov. 18th. He says he will get a fine because I am here "illegally" now that my work is finished.
Is it common to go to the office to declare your intent to leave?!?! Sounds wrong to me. |

You are leaving within 14 days of the termination of your contract. It isn't necessary for you to go down. He can do it by himself. Since your ARC expires within 14 days he doesn't need to do anything else either.
IF you had quit / finished more than 14 days before the end of your visa he would have had to cancel your visa to get another slot to replace you. That would have resulted in a 14 day exit order for you. |
