I'm leaving my school in mid-January and I wanted to use the vacation days I didn't use from summer but the boss doesn't want to let me. She told me I should wait until the first week of Jan. about a week before I'm scheduled to fly out. I was told I could use them whenever I wanted but know she's saying no.
Since I leave so soon anyway I'm wondering how much of a stink I should raise about this. I don't have any specific plans for those days, just wanted a long weekend. Maybe hope up to Busan or something, but nothing special. Chusoek to Xmas is a long stretch with no days off so I figured I'd take advantage of my unused days. I tried to use them during the Chusoek week but the boss wouldn't let me then either. Now I'm getting annoyed and I wanted to see if y'all thought this was sufficient to raise a fuss about. They've treated me decently up until now, I'd hate to leave on a sour note, but since I was told the days were mine to use as I saw fit, to be told no is really chapping my ass. It seems kind of petty to me to fight about this, but I feel she's not leaving me much of a choice. Asking me to take a vacation a week before my month-long vacation is just retarded.
I also extended my contract with them for a couple of months since my new school didn't need me until Feb. and I haven't gotten my return ticket and severance yet and I'm worried about the boss-lady getting revenge and screwing around with that stuff if she's not happy.
Advice?

What's her reason for not letting you take them when you want?
Is someone else already on holiday that week?

A few days is not worth risking losing your severance and flight ticket. She may be seeing if she can push you enough to make an argument so she can then screw you over.
Sad to have to be so spineless, but hey - this country provides us with no back up, legal rights or protection within hakwans. Trust me the Labour office and taking them to court is useless. Still haven't heard a thing abut my own case for 2million I was ripped off out of in Decemebr 2003. And I went there with a Korean... I don't ever expect to hear about it either.
My humble opinion, not worth making a stink... swallow the pride, you'll get over it.... |

I decided to just let it go. I didn't want to risk a 4 grand payday and my return flight. It does piss me off and if I talk to whoever the new teacher is that they bring in I won't warn them off the place, but I will raise a caution flag. Overall it's been a decent place, the vacation thing just annoyed me.
Thanks for the advice though.
