Hi, I don't know anything about this particular school, but I did a year in a JungChul hogwan in another area, about 3 years ago.
It was TERRIBLE - awful awful texts that I was forced to use, my boss wouldn't let me deviate one little bit. All that the kids did was memorise ridiculous stuff and they had absolutely no understanding of what they were memorising.
Find out from the teachers already there what exactly you're allowed to do, i.e games/activities as well as the set texts, because if all you have are the JungChul coursebooks, (unless they've had a major overhaul) it'll drive you nuts in no time.
Best of luck.

hmmm...

"I spoke with a teacher there he seems to like it."

So you got good answers to all the important questions?

It is a nice school?
Do they always pay on-time?
Nice boss? Nice apartment?

How about the tough questions that will make you angry the day AFTER payday?

ASK SPECIFICALLY - and get good answers about:
+PAY, overtime (do they pay it or avoid it with creative book keeping).
+CLASSES - how many per day / week / month. How long is a class and +WHAT IS A CLASS HOUR. A contract that says 120 hours can have you doing up to 180 x 40 minute classes (7200 contact minutes) per month for the same money as someone doing 120 x 50 minute classes (6000 contact minutes per month).
+Do they really pay into the pension and national medical?
+Do they do taxes properly or just flat rate you at 3.3 or 5% (illegal but often done - money is usually not remitted to the tax man)
+What is the housing like and what do they pay for? Your free apartment can cost you up to 150k or more won per month in maintainence and other fees (not really free).
+Holidays - when, how, how many and who decides.
++How long has the teacher you are talking to been working there?

Are you a grasshoper or a grasshopper? Either term sounds a bit suspect to me Sad

Could you be a little more specific? Jung-Chul is a huge franchise, there are multiple Jung-Chul schools in Cheong-Ju. Is the school located in Sugok-Dong? If so, I worked at that particular school my first year in Korea.

I worked at a Jungchul franchise and LOVED it for over three years.
It's a franchise, so my institute was a mom and pop operation.
The other teachers used the c.d.s. I went low tech: just the conversation book (which is goooood) and the reading book (which is so-so). I did my own thing 70% of the time the first year, about 50/50 afterwards. It's not the worst if you get to know the curriculum as reliable background info every class will know. Don't slavishly teach it. Fill in the gaps, do your own lessons which coincide or even diverge. There's nothing inherently bad about Jungchul unless (a) they make you use the c.d. (I just said nah, nicely, and used the time for more direct interaction) or (b) they want you to do testing (my director and his wife did that stuff, all I ever knew was when the next test was coming to prepare the students in the conversation lessons (which are decent BEGINNING points, and branch out from there). The Jungchul method makes the students read a lot and write a lot and say a lot, and spell a lot, even if their methods are sometimes outdated rote memorization, there are updates to new editions and I saw progress. I have to say... Jungchul is perfectly straightforward and comforting for a newbie who wants to just go with the flow at first. I've heard several Jungchul foreigners at other academies tell me that. I like to do my own thing always so from day one I said nah to the c.d./computer fiddlin' stuff and never looked back and my students learned and everybody was a happy camper until 3.5 years later it was time for me to move on to longer weekends and greener pastures at the foothills of Jiri National Park. Very Happy

Good luck whatever.

My contract has the following.. Is this usual practice?

b. The service of the teacher is to offer certain agreed-upon 120 teaching hours a

month ( on the basis of 60 minutes an hour) in the humane way he/she agreed

upon here or hereafter. The employer will return the teacher's energy and

efforts material and service support such as proper housing , salary , as mutually

a upon here.

e. For the first six months , the Employer will collect the deposit of 75.000 won each month , in order for the employer to pay off the bills of utilities and telephone charges, which the employer is to receive during the months after the teacher has left.
And

about being a grass hoper I saw this article on the net and scared me enough to leavemy Cheech & Chong instincts at Auckland departure lounge
