My CPU is still operating at 1.6mhz when it should be up at 2.4. This is the heatsink I am using...

CL, don't be too hard on yourself. *^^* That heatsink can be used with your CPU because it has the correct socket (LGA-775). I admit that even though it can be used it is not one of the best out there.

Does the temp still go up and throttle down your CPU? Strange... That heatsink is rated for Prescott-line CPUs and those dissipate way more heat than your C2D ever will. Anyway, I suggest that you get better hs with a really silent fan and try again. And yes, I don't think that getting a H2O-cooling system is necessary in your case. Good luck!

EDIT: I recommend one made of copper and having "heatpipes." Pass those made completely of aluminium. Zalman (check CNPS-series) and Scythe (Infinty) make some pretty good stuff... if they fit in your box!

CubanLord, what you need to do is to wrap your computer in clingfilm. Make some room, and then put it in the fridge (or the freeze). Then just sit back and watch that baby GOOOO.....

lol. thanks for the recommendations. Good news and bad news....

I called Intel and will be exchanging my processor for a new one. However, I will have to buy a new processor as well (it'll take about 4 weeks to complete this whole swapping of processors, warranty verification, sending back, etc.). It looks like I will have an extra core 2 duo E6600 (a brand new one).

I cannot be without a PC because of my schooling. So......If anyone is interested in a core 2 duo....brand new....never used....let me know and shoot me a price.
