|
|
I've just started my preparations to teach in South korea and
have been in contact with Footprints recruiting. All of their contracts
are 12month as are most Ive seen posted here.
Do shorter contracts exist? I asked around the travel forum on
craigslist and the advice I received was to take a job and quit
whenever I needed to. That sounds a little shady though.
any advice? |

I looked for a 6 month contract for several weeks. Many people staight up said no. I only got one offer. The thing is that if you take a 6 month contract you do not get return airfare, or a month's bonus, so you lose out on a few thousand dollars.
I needed a 6 month contract because my brother is getting married and i wanted to be home before the wedding. Seeing that I wouldn't get anything desireable I changed my tactic, I said I needed two weeks off for the wedding in September and said I was available for a year. I still got a lot of people who said no, and I couldn't work in the public school system but I eventually got what I wanted, sort of (some offered 1 week off, some offered 2 weeks unpaid, I got a week and a half unpaid).
Anyway it exists, it may take a while to find it but it exists. Just be aware that no one will pay roundtrip airfare and you lose your bonus, so I would recommend a year if you can. Good luck. |

IF you are here AND you don't have to worry about airfare then you can negotiate 6 month contracts.
IF you are abroad then there is virtually NO HOPE because the E2 visa is for one year. |

My current (teaching) contract is a six-month contract, with a decent salary, housing, airfare, and health insurance & pension included. Shorter contracts exist, but you have to know where to look. I really can't post too much info or my post will get pulled as this isn't a free advertisment job forum.
The E-2 visa is issued for the time specified by the signed contract. Thus, if you sign a 6-month contract, you will be issued a 6- or 7-month visa. MOST E-2s are issued for one year, because most of them require a one-year contract committment.
