I have two degrees one is a Bachelors and one is a Masters. I know if I apply for a uni job I need to submit the Masters for Immigration verification, but what if I am just going to do a hagwon....do I even have to worry about the Masters?
I'm asking because my grad school is taking their sweet time in sending me my diploma and transcripts. If I can get my foot in the door and be in country with the bachelors and then upgrade to a better position I will. I guess what I really need to know is that since my resume states I have a Masters degree will it need to be sent to the Consulate/Immigration for verification as part of the Visa requirements or can I just do it with a Bachelors since that's really all that is necessary for the most part?
Anyone know the background/requirements? Or should I just contact the consulate and deal with them?
Thanks |

I'm pretty sure a Bachelor's is fine for any hagwon or uni as far as immigration is concerned. Only some unis might require a master's for hiring, not for immigration. That's my understanding of the situation.
I think the immigration policy goes like this:
Any bachelor degree can be used to obtain the visa needed to teach here.
(someone else on this board will likely be better informed than me, however) |

That's basically my understanding as well but I formed this theory 3 years ago when I was there and I know some of the rules have changed.
I am in employment limbo right now. On one hand, I can't get a decent job here in the states because I don't know how long I will be there and don't want to commit to something long term nor can I gaurantee I'll even be here past the probationary period; and I refuse to do something like fast food. Then on the other hand, if I have to use the Masters as the degree I am at the mercy of the Uni and when they get off their backsides and send it to me. It's almost a Catch-22 for me.
Any help on this is appreciated. |

Any hakwon will accept any degree and most universities here will hire people without a Masters, although of course they prefer one. |

Ok so, so far it looks like I don't have to wait around twiddling my thumbs and waiting. I can make the applications and hold the Masters in the background as back-up.
That does make me feel a little better. I've been going stir crazy trying to figure out what to do. |

There have been a few posts on here saying that immigration won't accept master's for the E2 application, they will only accept a bachelor's degree. The university might require a master's to hire you but not for the visa application. (*disclaimer*: this is only a summary of what I have read here; I have no personal experience with it.) |
