How do you display Korean script on webpages and text documents? All I get are three vertical black lines? Do I need to download a custom font?

Have you already installed/enabled support for "East Asian languages?" In other words, can you write Korean? If you can but the text is still "vertical lines," you have to change the page encoding.

Windows XP:

"View" => "Character Encoding" => (If necessary "More Encodings" => "East Asian") => Korean

EDIT: And the above works only for websites. If you can't read text documents I think you may have to install support for "East Asian languages." Sometimes Korean documents are in .HWP format and need a program named "HWP Viewer" to be read correctly.

I've tried all that and it still only displays vertical black lines. I've installed support for Asian languages and changed the encoding and it changes nothing. I'm confused Confused

That's weird.

1) Can you write Korean now? There should be a "language bar" on your desktop or taskbar. With "Input Method Editor" (IME) you should be able to write Korean in Word and other M$ applications. Try to write hangeul in your browser or Word... does it come out garbled as well?

2) Does any of the Korean web sites show correctly or are they all messed up? I have more than one encoding option for Korean language. Maybe you just picked up a wrong one?

THIS should answer any of your questions about displaying, inputing, or using Korean on your system.

I think I found out what the problem is. In the control panel advanced text services was disabled, hopefully I can see Hangul properly now.
