Every time on the subway or in the PC bang its the same. Grown men walk over to the vacant seat beside me, then hesitate when they notice a waygook is there. Trembling and stressed, they then make some excuse to whoever they're with and go elsewhere.
A minute ago I was just about to tell the guy to have a seat and relax. Its going to be ok, foreigners do not bite and there was nothing to be afraid of.
then suddnly i realised..its actually much more prefereable that these juveniles sit somewhere else away from me. |

Or maybe you look like this?
Or maybe you look like a wild and hungry gay man on the prowl?
Or maybe you simply need to use more deodorant.
No one has a problem sitting next to me! |

| On the immediate level its neither here nor there if they sit down or not. But it would be better for life in Korea for westerners if the thinking behind why they chose not to sit down did not exist... |

I suppose it would be hard to see if you're a waygook or not.

I never have that.. where do you live anyways?
Unfortunately people always grab seats next to me without hesitation.
Hate to say it.. but maybe its the way you present yourself. There are certain Korean people (or even foreigners) I just don't want to sit next to for whatever reasons regardless of ethnicity. Same when I lived in NYC, etc. |

I usually wave a knife in their faces and shout "sit next to me please".
Seriously..never experienced this same level of paranoia in any other country- and I've been in 25.
Their immediate nervousness projects on to me. they look like they're about to propose or something. |

Probably thought you were some left-wing liberal and didn't feel like being tranquilized to death w/ some bleating suburban rant about Bush or the war against the free Iraqi people..

They're probably attracted to your smell. Reminds them of the water buffalos back in isaarn.

I prefer it because I'm a leg-splayer when I sit.
I like my boys to have lots of breathing space. I cant do that when I'm sitting cheek to cheek with someone on the train.
This does not make me a bad man. |
