Well, the Democrats seem to be having a nice run, taking the ouse and possible the Senate when things are said and done. How does the world view our elections. I am solid democrat but these election results are bigger than that. Whats the word on Dave's? |

It gives the Dems two years to radically alter the general public perception of them. What they need to do is govern responsibly and in a liberal-centrist way -- raise the minimum wage, toughen ethics rules for representatives and senators, hold hearings investigating corruption in Iraq, defeat the illegal wiretapping program, and end torture. They need to be seen as working hard, which means no more spending most of your time on vacation outside DC. And every step of the way, they need to contrast their actions vividly with those of the Republicans over the last 5 years.
Of course this all assumes they get their act straight internally and follow their leadership rather than bickering and squabbling about this or that being too liberal or not liberal enough, etc. |

I'm a non-American Libertarian who nominally supports either party depending on the time, place and issues. This time round I was pleased to see the Dems elected and hope they will go some way to rolling back the intrusiveness of government as instituted by the Bush administration. That being said, I know trusting dems to do this is a perilous exercise, but the new crew deserve at least the benefit of the doubt. |
