Let me show you the failures since the Korean War.

Bay of Pigs. We promised the Cuban nationals air support. We pulled the rug out from under them. They were slaughtered like pigs.

The Vietnam War. We promised the South Vietnamese our support. We pulled the rug out from under them. Over 3 million died when we left.

The first Iraq war. Well, we left it unfinished.

Oh, and we also left the Kurds hanging in the wind.

Somalia? One of our boys got dragged through the streets. We took off from a bunch of savages waving sticks like there was no tomorrow.

The Iraq war? 3,000 died for what? So we can hand it over to Nancy Polosi.

This is what a career in the military gets a man who happens to be in harm's way: Freaking prosecuted for war crimes!

Solution? Let the terrorists have their way!

We can become another Spain who cowers and shivers when the terrorists bomb their subways.

Do not join the military! You'll be considered more evil than the actual enemy.

Let America become another mediocre country like Canada or the UK.

Hand the world to the Chinese. At least they're smart enough to stand up for their own self-interests.

Go China.

Where did you get this figure from otis? And who got rid of the Khmer Rouge? Not the US military.

(yes, I'm an apologist for Dang Cong San Viet Nam)

Exactly. the west has become a nonsensical, self defeating entity. Its become soft you could say, with no real belief or conviction in anything it does.

Why go into a war only to back down when the first few soldiers are killed? Why promote the interests of your enemy constantly? Why betray your allies? why reward criminals and punish victims? I guess the answer lies somewhere in the 60's.

I did and I can't find your figure. That's why I asked you for a source.

Grenada, Haiti (though not technically a "war", twice)...

One should watch the film "Why we fight". Very interesting.

Canada and the U.K. are mediocre? The Chinese haven't invaded another country except for Vietnam. The Russians and the U.S. invaded others, and Afghanistan made Russia pay a heavy price and Iraq made the U.S. pay a heavy price. I am sorry it is not Canada that is mediocre. It is the apex of hubris to call Canada mediocre with the mediocre leadership in Washington. Did not have an arrogant leadership that sent it to invade Iraq without planning? The mediocre government is putting to work people with expertise from the previous Bush administration to fix the blunders.

You seem to think the best mark of a country is how much violence it can wield rather than making the most of its resources, people, and looking within. What you are talking about is not what made America great. You forget America's history. Washington sent the troops out there without proper preparation. It is like sending a good team out there without preparing them with a strategy. How smart is that? And you are blaming the liberals for that?

The Spanish government sent troops despite the majority opposing such a venture. That is in contrast to 75% of the U.S. population that supported the misadventure based on what they were led to believe.
The Spanish population eventually got their wish not to be involved when the Socialists were elected. You are twisting everything.
Had the U.S. had a plan, things were organized, there wasn't the crazy de-Baathification those 3,000 soldiers would not be dead. So it is not simply about the casualities. Americans are pissed off!

Invasions are usually successful, it's the occupation that fails.

my 2 cents:

Vietnamese casualties are far less specific, and they were
deliberately falsified prior to 1995, leading to some of the
confusion. According to the Agence France Presse (French Press Agency)
as reported on http://www.rjsmith.com/kia_tbl.html , "...the true
civilian casualties of the Vietnam War were 2,000,000 in the north,
and 2,000,000 in the south. Military casualties were 1.1 million
killed and 600,000 wounded in 21 years of war. These figures were
deliberately falsified during the war by the North Vietnamese
Communists to avoid demoralizing the population."

So approximately 5.1 million total Vietnamese casualites.

And a grand total of approximately 5.4 million.

Another reference coroborrating this number is at:

Yes. Otis is claiming 3 million South Vietnamese deaths post-US withdrawl though:
