My absolute favourite student EVER is leaving my hakwon today as her family is moving to another area. Her name is Kayla, she has just turned 7 years old, has no front teach, two pigtails and short little pixie fringe (bangs) and she is just the sweetest, smartest, kindest and most generous & wise little soul I have ever met in my life and my heart is breaking
It's the first time since teaching that I've bonded so closely with a student. It took every ounce of self control to not burst into tears when she told me (and I'm not usually the weepy type...)
Does anyone else have tales of students they love that leave?
I'm going to the supermarket now to buy up big for her "cookie party" farewell this afternoon.

I had a favorite student tell me during out winter break classes that she was moving to Pusan the next day. I was crushed because she was the one student I had that was consistently enthusiastic about English and consistently on-task and happy in class. Besides that, she was a student that I often chatted with outside of class and exchanged e-mails with (Actually, still do). So many times she had made my day a little brighter.
I remember the day that I told the kids that we were going to choose names in English. She was so excited and so into it. She really read over that list of names, agonizing over which one to choose for almost 40 minutes and asking me to read them out loud for her. Finally we chose Nicky for her and it really suited her.
Well, when Teacher's Day came, I received a nice note from her, on Pucca stationery, thanking me for teaching her. It was my best gift that day. |

i've had many of my favourites leave over the course of my year here. It sucks, indeed. And I hate how, at my institute anyway, it's always so sudden. Like, the day that they're leaving, i'll find out about it. |

I'm still having trouble getting over Hye-jung leaving our institute two months ago, really sad to see her go. She's a 24 year old uni student and part-time narrator model. Woe!!!! |
