whatdaya reckon? Is Vista going to be as popular as XP? Is XP only as widley used as it is because its pirated. Who's going to upgrade if you can't update an illegal copy? What other operating systems are there that could offer better than a pirated (and therefore non-updateable) XP? |

I am using Vista now.
I think it is going to be popular but a lot of people will need to invest in RAM to get the performance they need from it. |

I'm sticking with XP until Vista has been exploded. |

Next summer I'll be getting a new computer and at that time I'll be buying a legit copy of Vista - no more pirated XP for me. |

I have never used a pirated OS, and the same will go for Vista when I do pick it up. However, I will be keeping my eye on what the open source community can do. Ubuntu is looking better, though for gaming, it's still a nowhere road. Dual boot, I guess.
I can't see any really legit reason to move to Vista. It's mostly a cosmetic change and XP will be supported for a long while yet. When we looked at XP from an ME/Win98SE point of view, there were a boatload of good reasons to make the jump. This time, I can only see a few benefits, but for the most part, after using a couple of RCs from Vista, I truly see it as a bloated OS and very intrusive and controlling.
As I said, once it has been pulled and picked apart, I will look at it more seriously. |

There will always be a way to pirate the OS. Microsoft leaves a way every single time. I have a theory that they do it on purpose. It is imposible to believe that the largest single software company on the planet can't make their product safe but any game company can easily thwart pirates (online play especially). |

That's because you're essentially playing the game on their computer, not yours.
Also, every corporation in the west that uses windows is paying for every single copy. that's a lot of sales. |

Anything that is put into the public domain will be tampered with and ultimately, broken open. |

I have a feeling that Vista is all about keeping piracy down. I mean, a whole new OS taking so long to come out, just for a new GUI? That's naive.
Vista is a dark horse folks. Wait and see. |
