In my interview today, the lady told me that I would have to pay the monthly insurance premiums for the two months I have been living in Korea searching for a job. That doesn't make any sense to me, but she swore that this is the case.
As an example, she told me her husband, a Turkish guy, got a job here with a university after living in Korea for 6 years. In order to get health insurance, he was asked to pay for all 6 years of premiums. At that rate, he decided to go with private insurance.
Also, she told me that the current teacher refused to get health care in exchange for the money, and 6 months after working, he got very sick. When he asked to be enrolled in the health insurance program, they asked him for 6 months of payments.
What's the deal |

You are a little confusing so I hope I understood you correctly.
I assume you meant an interview with a school (hakwon).
Tourists are exempt from medical coverage and the requirements to do so. Even long term tourists like canadians (who can get 6 month stamps).
You do NOT have to back pay for the time you were here on a tourist stamp.
If you will be here on an E1/E2, when you make your visa run you get a new entry date. Your requirements for medical start on THAT entry date.
You cannot get medical without your ARC so if you take a couple months between your entry and your ARC then you will have to backpay THOSE premiums.
IF you are on an F2 / F4 visa (like her husband would be) then you have to back pay from the time of entry OR time of your change in status which ever is the most recent. |

Yes the interview was with a hakwon. I have a C-3 visa. So it's about the entry date... and I would get a new entry date with the new visa.
That clears things up!
Thanks! |
