|
|
I am leaving a job before I even got my ARC. They made me set up a new account when I took the job. Now that I am leaving and they haven't gotten me an ARC and they say that they cannot deposit my pay into my account.
I am leaving the school because they are completely disorganized.
They have already sent a small sum of money to my new account, but claim that a transfer of an entire month's wages would tip off the financial authorities and I would be taxed to the tune of 22%!!!
NOT COOL!
So they want to transfer the money to my Korean gf's account. I would prefer NOT to involve my Korean gf in this if at all possilbe.
Can I/should I demand my pay in cash when I leave the school. I will be leaving 10 days ahead of payroll but it's a big chain I am sure they could scrounge up the pittance they owe me...
Opinions?
(To be fair, if they are being honest with me about the tax thing, offering to do it through my gf's account is very nice of them.)

22%? In what country? Canada? Your tax rate, if you're making a bundle, MIGHT be over 2%. Did you mean to say 2.2%? If not, and IF they are talking about Korean tax, they're talking nonsense. The account thing sounds like a scam. You don't have your ARC. Do you have an E-2 visa? If not, they're just hiding you. Without an E-2 visa (unless you have something else, like and F-2 which I know nothing about) you are working here illegally. |

I think it's bs. I was paid before I received my ARC card. It takes a little while before you get the card. Your account is set up using your passport, it really has nothing to do with the ARC. My bank has never asked to see my ARC, only my PP. I would tell them to make the deposit or fork over the cash. End of problem. |

It's a branch of YES. The manager claims that this idea came down from the finance office in Seoul.
It sounds like a big pile of horse puckey to me as well.
What are my options? Monday is my last day... who do I call? |

The fact that they are willing to pay you, although through your girlfriend's account is a good sign. It means that they don't intend on screwing you at this time.
It sounds like they are worried about getting into legal trouble since all the documentation hasn't had time to be processed. If they deposit the money into your account it would expose them to risk that they aren't willing to accept. They made a suggestion of transfering it into your girlfriend's account and that is their way of making a comprise that will be mutually acceptable. They aren't risking getting into trouble, and you are getting paid. Why not let them do it?
If you really don't want to, then you will need to think of a better way to do it. If they can't pay cash because of corporate rules then maybe a trusted coworker would be of some help. |

I just prefer not to involve my gf... she's not the most reliable person I've ever met.
Does anyone else think they probably just fudged the decimals. They meant to say 2.2% and it came out 22%. Seriously... 22% is a ton of money to take out of somebody's check... ???? |

Yeah, sounds just plain effed up to me. Offer, then insist if need be, on accepting your pay in cash. |

I worked for YES in the past and found them to be very honest when it came to pay. I never had problems with tax, pension, late pay etc. and they even filed for tax returns for all the teachers, saving us the trouble.
I'm thinking, since they are such a big school, they may NEED some kind of paper trial of where the money goes (in the form of bank wire receipts or something). Cash may be out of the question...but you never know.
I would suggest staying calm and talking it out with the person in charge, as I feel pretty sure they're not trying to screw you. |

I have had large amounts of money transferred into my account when the bank knew I was on a tourist visa. I don't think their explanation holds water. |
