Today we had our 'encouragement' assmebly for the grade 3s who are going to be sitting the CSAT on Thursday, and while I'm anything but an emotional guy, I have to say it really touched a nerve. Most of it was just standing out in the cold but at the end where they called them all forward to get a get a gift and a rose while playing sappy music I have to say I was pretty moved. I saw them filing past ... there's Jiun, Gaeyun, Sohee, whats-her-name, Boram, Eunji, the two quiet ones who always sit at the back. And then I thought shit, I actually know more than half their names, and with 90% of them it's for the good reason. I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you've got 500 students, knowing more than half a class' names is quite an accomplishment. A year and one semester isn't a long time to be teaching a group, but I still have memories of field trips, preparing for speech contests, music festivals, a trip to Seoul with a few of them, and so many anectdotes from class.
I guess they finally have to grow up and move on at some point, but don't you wish sometimes that you could keep teaching some classes forever? I guess you could say that it sucks in a good way. |

Well I woudnt go as far as saying I wish I could teach a class forever, but I will say there are a lot of students I will miss when i leave. Even some of those naughty ones that like to tease me for fun (not in a bad way), or after I yell at them one day they come back the next like nothing ever happened. The ones that annoy the crap out of me but then spent all their pocket money on a big Pepero box when they gave their Korean teacher a single stick.
In class I can have a few probs, mostly because at the moment we are cramming 15 students into a tiny little room with little air circulation or room to move about. But outside the class 95% of my students are awesome! I love our camps and movie days just because when they arent forced to study, they are so terrific! |

| Yeah I have a few classes that I look forward to seeing more than the others. And then after my class when they go to the quiz room, I often idle around, talking to them or playing around until I get shooed off by the quiz mistress. |
