It's probably too early to ask this but some of you guys might now this. Has Sony made the PS3 harder to chip up?

You'd probably want to wait a while before voiding your warranty. If it explodes after you modded it, say goodbye to $600. Given Sony's record on stability lately, I wouldn't risk it. The PS2 was notoriously prone to breaking and the debacle with the laptop batteries should be a warning to everyone.

It will be a while. the machines were released in Japan over the weekend. No doubt there are some that have fallen off a boat in Busan by now. Who know what problems the first gen will have. I will wait and see and read up.
They will be chipped at some stage, there's no doubt about that. |

Yes its modable out of the box you don't even need any chips. PS3 is an openplatform that means you can install your own OS and do your own shiznat on it.

The main problem being that the PS3 plays BluRay Discs not DVDs. I don't know if you or the scabs that sell copied games have upgraded to BRD yet. The drive and the BRD discs cost a pretty penny so you might as well pay full price. Why mess up your 800k won machine to save money on games you don't even want to play.
