Hey all! My name is Justin and I will be starting at the Avalon Elementary School (Lmae branch) in early December. I was just wondering if there were any people here who worked at this school/ lived in that area of Bundang. Anything I should know about the area? This is my first post, so I'm sure I'll be bugging everyone with more questions Wink

Hey Justin, dont worry man, you will be in a good situation up there in Imae, by the way you wont be living in Imae, probably Sunae, 2 stops away. I know quite a few of the Imae crew, and they are cool characters. Avalon is alright, no nonsense, always paid and what not. Bundang is fun, there are a few bars, and remember Seoul is only half an hour by bus. Good luck man.

I was told Avalon has a lot of different branches - I am working the elementary branch in Imae. So, I don't think the full name is just "Avalon Elementary School"; I assume there is more than just one elementary school by Avalon in SK.

Sorry, it just sounds strange that they name it an elementary school. Isn't Avalon a hagwon?

Well it couldn't stay pristine forever. Turnin' into a slum is inevitable.

Umm, I think what you think to be an 'elementary school' is actually an after-school academy for elementary school students. What are your hours?

When you show up they may want you to turn up early for prep time too. So you might end up being there from 1.30 or 2 and start teaching at 3. Prep time is almost universally unpaid at hagwons, and often they'll mention it in the fashion of 'oh, by the way, you'll be working about 10 hours per week for free. Cheers.'
