The US--and western countries in general--would recapture many lost qualities getting back to morality like this. I don't admire Vietnam for its politics, but its people are much more basic than its politics, aren't they?

Korea had it's own incident like this 7 years ago:

Been There, Taught that - I'm not sure what you're saying. That Western countires would gain something by returning to moral standards like this? Paris Hilton is not the norm in Western countries but an extreme, and Vietnamese people (or Koreans) condemming women who commit the heinous crime of premarital sex, but appluading the men who do, isn't exactly some golden age I want to return to.

If anyone's interested, I talk about some of the differences between Korean (and I guess Vietnamese also) and Western celebrity culture on my blog here:

Dumb article wrote:

Most of the public's wrath has been directed at Thuy Linh rather than Viet.

"People will forgive him, but not her," said Tran Minh Nguyet of the Vietnam Women's Union, which promotes gender equality. "Vietnamese think it's OK for a boy to have sex at that age, but not for a girl. It's absolutely unfair."

Doesn't seem very moral to me.
