Hi,
I'm in my 2nd year of a public school contract and apparently they require all teachers to have a medical check or otherwise they slap you with a 200,000 fine. My question is, what are they required to check. Sounds like they do a blood tests? And probably heart etc.
I don't have a regular Dr so could someone recommend a good one, preferably a female who speaks good English. I'm in Bundang.

I had a health check here in Korea before I joined EPIK. I went to a hospital and they "checked" every thing. Eyes, heart, pee, blood, height-weight, chest x-ray, teeth, psych eval.....the works....

Now for the good part.

Psych eval consisted to the doctor asking me if I was crazy. "Nope." Tick.
"How are your teeth?" "Good." Tick.
"Any trouble pooping?" "Nope." Tick.
The pee test was completed with a litmus strip.
I did get a regular eye exam.
Chest x-ray same as everywhere else.
Heart...stethescope.

Cost.....28,000 won all-in.

The trick is to take a Korean who speaks english. My first visit to the hospital was frustrating as they had no idea what I wanted.
You should also find out from your employer exactly what they require... it might save repeated trips to the hospital. They might have a form for you...

I had one done in July. There was a semi-English speaking doctor in Bundang.

My new school sent me a form that they wanted me to have filled out. It included tests for many body parts and organs. But, the doctor said it would be really expensive to actually check liver, stomach, kidneys, etc., so he just asked me if I had any problems with these things.

I had to have a hepatitus (sp?) shot, though, b/c I didn't have any forms indicating that I had one recently. He also wanted to give me a tetanus (sp?) shot, but I told him I had one two years ago, so he jus checked it off the form.

So it wasn't thorough at all, which isn't surprising considering what country we're in. My tips, I guess are:
(1) try to get your school to give you a standard form for medical exams. Failing that, talk to your recruiter, b/c they might have some they can email you.

(2) If you've had shots/immunizations, bring the paperwork with you. Get someone to fax/mail/email the forms from home, otherwise you might be paying for them again this time.

I had one done in August...you can get the full physical if you want. I went to a clinic and they did a blood test, pee on a stick, and a chest x-ray. 10 minutes, 16,000 won. Picked up the certificate a week later and took it to my public school...

They just want to know you don't have AIDS, methinks.

actually,
you need to get this health check done at an approved hospital. They check your height, weight, pulse, eyesight. They also test your blood and urine and perform a chest xray.
