There we have it folks - I make today my second in total where I've not taught a single class and done nothing except recreational things. I'm not complaining, because I've found stuff to do, but heavens above - I should just ask to stay in bed on days like these.
Is that what you do (don't come in on nothing days, exam days, what ever)? Or do you do what I've done a couple of times (including today) and come in and get paid for being wonderfully lazy? |

Thanks to grade 3 middle school exams, I taught 2 classes yesterday, 2 today, and will teach 1 tomorrow. You're right, some days it's so boring not having enough to do at work. I love teaching, and it's taken me a long time to appreciate my free time at work!
I think that I will catch up on the emails and MSN with my mom tomorrow. |

I hear ya.
I have a half day tomorrow and don't have to come in until later on Thursday because of exams. Similar situation next week too.
It's a good op to catch up on my e-mails.

Gotta love Asian high school second semesters...the same is true of Thai schools. So many days off for exams, festivals, field trips, catching up, etc
Go public! |

Yeah, I have a lot of days like that. I never have to teach more than 5 40 min classes per day and most days it's less. I just download music and films/TV shows on bittorrent and watch them, or just jam out and surf the message boards I belong to. I sometimes leave early and nobody says anything. My co-workers are all really cool and I like them a lot. Can't wait to see what it's gonna be like during the winter/summer break. Hope to take at least 3 weeks back home in LOS each break. Rural public schools rock! |

I've been told I won't be working a camp/workshops that was in my contract. I'll be teaching the after school classes in the morning, I might be lucky and get to go home at lunch time. I must remember to ask about when my actual vacation starts and finishes. When do you guys get your official time off. Right at the start of the kids vacation time, right at the end? |

About one in ten days are class-free for me, as they get cancelled for various tests, field trips, festivals, assemblies, holidays, and other things I don't hear about until I start wondering where my students are. It's nice. |

During the last exam period in October, I brought in movies and watched them on my laptop, caught up on emails, worked on my TESOL course, and read a book.
Had three of my five classes today canceled because the Korean teacher was behind in her text book, three of my four classes tomorrow are canceled for the same reason, and I have Thursday as a day off because my co-teachers are going to invigilate the entrance exams at one of the universities....
I heart my job. |

You have some say as to when you get your vacation (I do at least).
Re the camp/after-school classes in the mornings: that's what I did last winter and (yes) went home at lunchtime every day, which at the time seemed like the best thing ever! However, my school's very liberal and others are not. Did actual camp in summer. To be honest though, I prefered camp because I got paid more and it was easy enough and the kids were great - truly outstanding kids. I enjoyed the winter thing at the time and doing just 3 hours work per day, but in hindsight camp was way more worthwhile.

That's cool.
My schools are pretty good. One makes me do office hours, but my contract has a bit of office time shaved off. (I work 8:30 to 4:00). At my other school I only have to be there from 10:30 to 3:00. I'll try to find out tomorrow. I hope they have the same attitude as your school SPINOZA.
Cheers for the info. |

I'm curious. How about the rest of you? Anyone keeping track of how many classes you have canceled? Anyone care to guess what your average teaching week is like?
Cheers. |

At least one class a week is canceled. I think I've only taught one week with all of my classes since Chuseok. Five canceled this week but I still have to be there the whole day. Tomorrow I'll be done at ten and I will spend the next six hours playing Tetris. |

It doesn't matter where you work. You should have a book or somethig else to do.
A few times I've went to my class and found out my class has went on a field trip. So I have to walk all the way across campus to do something. Then 30 mins later back again.
Bring a book. It'll save you a lot of trouble. |
