When the school buys your ticket, how many stops/layovers (typically) does a flight from North America have?

It depends on what city you are leaving from. For example, I have a teacher leaving for PEI, Canada, and the best we could get her was 4 stopovers. Sucks to be sure, but sometimes it is really hard to get more direct flights.

The school will choose the cheapest route, and sometimes it is cheaper to connect to a certain city, as they have more frequent flights out.
