Hi,

I need to go to Japan, Taiwan or China to get a tourist visa once I enter Korea again. I know it says in the 'regulations' you should have an onward ticket showing you will leave Korea, but is it necessary? Do they even check? (I'm British BTW)

I'm going to find another job in Korea so it would be a waste of money for me to buy an onward ticket...

TIA,

I mean, because my E2 will expire, I need to leave and re-enter Korea in order to get a tourist visa...

OK... when your E2 expires, yes you need to leave and re-enter.

TECHNICALLY you require onward passage out of Korea.

If you travel to Japan, or Taiwan and come back on the return portion of your ticket you will probably NOT get asked by the airline. Immigration here won't ask.

Just be prepared to buy a refundable ticket to somewhere if the need arrises (like at the airline counter).

They usually don't worry if you are on the RETURN portion of your ticket FROM Korea. They assume that you were there legally so either:
a) you have status to return/be there or
b) since you are NOT Korean you must have a ticket to get home eventurally.

On the off chance that you do get asked you MAY have to purchase a ticket out (so get a refundable one to anywhere). I have never known it to happen from the destinations you mentioned but lightning does strike occasionally.
