I am wondering if anyone knows what technology Korean traffic cameras use to catch speeders.

Guess #1: Radar
Guess #2: Infared
Guess #3: Sensors in the streets that measure the speed by calculating the time it takes between two points

There has been some discussion on the Korean internet sites about how people "beat the system."

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

ou812,

It would be interesting to know. From what I've heard similar systems in the US use radar.

Whether there is a method to beat the system, I don't know. Would it suprise me that Koreans are talking it about it on the internet? Nope.

By the way can you tell us where the discussion is happening? I'm curious.

Also if anyone has run across any articles discussing the technology, I'd be interested in reading about it.

Or better yet just plaster your license plate with mud.

Get that James Bond licence plate thing that flips it over then steal yourself your Hogwon director's plate and drive fast all the time.

There are special license plates and such that are of course illegal which you can use to conceal your number from cameras and such. Of course, the fine for trying to trying to beat the system if you get caught is higher than the fine for speeding.

You can fork out for some lcd plates which change when they sense a camera flash. Or for the cheaper option use cling-film. It will reflect the light causing the image to blur. Or clone someone else's plates, let them get the fine in the mail.

Someoone recently posted a wonderful revenge prank. Steal your directors license plate, drive like a maniac through as many cameras as posisble, and put the plate back.
