Greetings,
A buddy and I are heading to India for 3 weeks. Some costs we know, but I'd like some figures for budget purposes from any experienced travelers to India.
We're going to Delhi/Northern India for about 10 days, and then down South to mumbai/Goa to 'have some fun'. The plane ticket I know about, but how much will the rest of the trip cost us?
Thoughts, suggestions or money quotes appreciated.
Thanks. |

You can spend as much money as you want in India, it depends on 1) what kind of experience you're looking for, and 2) whether or not you know where and how to get it. |

well, the question is mainly regarding day-to-day cost. If you're eating at 'Indian' restaurants, and not big swanky places, how much would you spend on food a day? That's the type of thing I'm looking for.
I've bought the lonely planet, and gone through it, but every time I've used a lonely planet, it's been slightly less than accurate when it comes to the reality of travel and living costs. |

Food : A normal meal in Mumbai costs 35 INR (.9USD) In Goa and tourist places you might double it. If you go to one of the uber rich restaurants you might have to spend 4 USD per meal.
Stay : It starts from 500 INR (10 USD) and can go all the way up to 250 USD. The prices are quite high in tourist places because tourists are willing to pay more than the usual prices, especially the foreign tourists. |
