My public elementary school is feckin' freezing. The principal says that the heating won't be on until it dips below -3C. Is this common or is she just a inhumane biatch? |

Well it's not uncommon. At least there will probably still be heating in the staff room. |

Yours is a more progressive place than some I've worked in. One place had a policy to not turn on the heat until December 1, no matter what the temperature was. The employees of course bought electric space heaters and ran up the electric bill, but that was OK. At least the heat wasn't on. They also turned the heat off on March 1, regardless of temperature. |

Why...can anyone answer....is it so difficult to install central heating and cooling in korean homes, buildings, businesses, schools, etc...
Where is the logic in not having a work/home comfortable? |

Central heating I think would be more expensive unless they had a system to regulate the heat in every room. Otherwise they would be heating spaces they weren't usign, and that doesnt make sense. Last year I had a 4 bedroom apartment. I slept in one, and the other three were toasty warm all winter. I know, cause I went into one of them....once. |

We have ondol at work. The classrooms with windows are perfect, or a little on the cold side. The classrooms without windows need air conditioning. |

That would be too easy and logical for Koreans. |

Doesn't this all fall in line with the Koreans' defintion of season? No matter what the temperature or weather is like, winter is from such and such a date to such and such a date. Summer, spring and fall also. That's why you have kids bundled up in your classes on September 1st despite the 23 degree weather. And AC blowing in your face in April even though its only 10 degrees.
They're so proud of their 4 seasons ("Does Canada have 4 seasons? Yes? But not like Korea!") they need to pronounce them more than anyone else.
Hey, its why we love 'em. |
