I'd like to buy some sort of MP3 player. My friend was telling me about this huge electronics market in Seoul that we could check out.
Getting to my point, how many songs can an MP3 player hold? (For the sake of argument, standard song = four minutes.) According to my friend, his MP3 player holds about 12 CDs worth. I'd like something that holds a crap load more.
How much should I expect to pay?

I haven't either, unless you count the MP3 that's apparently in my handphone which I don't know how to use. |

Use this as a rule of thumb; 1GB will hold up to 200 songs, maybe more.
If you want something more, go for an iPod mini or a 20 GB iPod. My 20 GB holds about 5,000 tracks. |

What should one expect to pay for a 20GB iPod in Yongsan? Or are there cheaper places?

I was a late adapter to the MP3 thing too.
Got my first PMP/MP3 player a couple of months
ago, and it is awesome. Just today I propped
my little mp3 up on it's stand and watched 'the office'
as I was eating lunch in a little 식당.
It's an I-station v43. It seems like a good time
to pick one up, as it is not the latest model, but
apart from not having inbuilt DMB it's almost exactly
the same as the latest version (T43)

I've had an Ipod mini for about two years now. Just songs on it, but the 6GB it holds about 1400 tunes. Which is a few days of music.
Your batteries will die out well before you run out of songs. |

Yeah, this one still needs answering. I saw a 4GB on the Army base for 180 USD. Deal or no deal? |

8gb Zen Microphoto can go from 160-220. Look online, why go crazy over a Ipod? |

I don't think an MP3 is an absolute necessity. I can go for months without using mine. However, it is quite enjoyable in Korea when you want to ignore the people trying to practise their English on you. Also helpful for crying babies on trains, etc.
If you change your music all the time and don't plan on taking your MP3 on big trips, get a cheap one for 500 mb or 256 or whatever and change your music every month or so. I have a 256 mb and find it good enough to suit my needs. |

Why aren't you people using the MP3 players on your cellphones, damn it?! Wasn't that--the inclusion of an MP3 player--a consideration when you purchased your mobile? Of course it was. Even if you didn't plan on using it, just seeing "MP3" in the features list gave you a warm fuzzy, and don't deny it. So now you're using a separate MP3 player. You're carrying two devices instead of one. That's two batteries and two rechargers and two sets of earphones to fark around with and to recharge and to monitor the juice left. Why have you complicated your life in this way? And what's the point of cellphone manufacturers incorporating the MP3 function when it seems most people just won't use it?

JG,
My thought is that it would run down your battery pretty quick, but that being said I don't have one on my phone. I've never had a MP3 player either, although my wife has one. I have no idea how to work it. I feel like my grandfather feels about computers, technology is getting too complex. |
