What are your feelings about Kurt Russell? He's been in some fine movies such as Escape From New York, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and Captain Ron.

I watched The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China last night. He has a lot of classic roles, but I notice he's never mentioned alongside guys such as Pacino or DeNiro. Why? Because of his choice of roles? Or is he not as great an actor?

Don't forget about Kurt's performance in Tango & Cash, which was, as described by the infallible Wikipedia, 'one of the greatest cinematic feats of the twentieth century'.

The Thing was my fav movie for years. Especially the way the soundtrack, 80's synthy, generates tension like overhead powerlines until, waaghhhh, all monstrousness breaks loose. And two guys watching each other waiting for the monster to come out, an alien space invader which would mean the end of mankind. So they share swigs from the bottle and wait for the cold to kill them (whoever is human, that is).

And Escape From New York.

that's pretty much it. he's not as great an actor. he's on the mel gibson level, maybe somewhat above that, but not on the Pacino level, not nearly.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?"

"Yessir, the check is in the mail."

You're a lucky man, indeed. If that had been me, I would have slept most of the day away as a means to recover from such an exhilarating experience. I'm not Superman, though.

(I try, but I always seem to miss the mark, as evidenced below.)

You left out his masterpiece, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.

He really shows range there, playing a geek.

I've said it before. Kurt Russel is the American Arnold Swartzenegger. His finest moment was making that other has-been pee in the radiator in red dawn.

or maybe it was Captain Ron.

I think another problem is despite him having some classic roles, he sometimes gets overshadowed by his costars. For example, many more people remember Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday than Russell's Wyatt Earp in Tombstone.

Useless Kurt fact for the day: He was the voice of Elvis in Forrest Gump.

(Is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?)

PS - Seeing as how I'm so persuasive (seriously, it's my mutant power), I ask that anyone who appreciates Kurt Russell (or supports fair trade amongst nations) incorporate KR into their avatar or sig.

I know it's been done before, but this time it's Kurt Russell: real men want to be him, and women want to be with him.

Do the right thing, Mookie.

First things first: Tell us what's in the Six Demon Bag (beside six demons). That should draw more to the Kurt Russell Consortium.

4. The GZA

5. GATO!

6. One coupon for free Egg Shen egg roll.

Kurt's "wife" (Goldie Hawn) and step-daughter (Kate Hudson) are both probably more talented actors than he is. I found out that he was born in the same hometown as me, though (Springfield, Mass.) and he's only two years younger than I am...
