|
|
I download alot of programs using torrents. I had to have my computer reformated recently because of strange things that were happening to my computer (a sign of some virus?).
Anyways, I am wondering if anyone has had any problems, i.e. computer acting strangely, slower than usual, mind of it's own, etc...???
Because I thought downloading these torrents, were relatively safe.
And, if so, any solutions.? |

Yup....there were viruses even in movies. I scan every file I torrent because they are full of the nasty little suckers. Why did you think they were safe? Anything from the net is a potential head shot. |

You will get viruses from bittorrent but usually people post messages about infected shit. Also you can just be smart.
Don't download movies in .exe format don't download little things in .exe format or zip/rar files (you can but be very careful). Don't download wmv format either. I haven't downloaded a viruse in over 6 months.. I haven't had a active infection in over a year. |

also, dont use public trackers.. in my humble opinion, private torrents in a closed community are the only way to minimize the risk. |

Virus in a movie file like an MPEG, MOV, or AVI? I know the WMF had a problem. I'm not aware of any virus that launches when you run an AVI etc.
I think I read that a lot of cracked warez are loaded with viruses. Yeah watch that. Torrent is open and anyone can find out your IP. So use a firewall like Zonealarm. |

How did you reformat your computer? I'm having the exact troubles you are talking about after dling movies and stuff. Its frustrating because i have a nice set up given to me by my school but i can't use it properly. |
