Well, six months in Seoul and I feel like a pack a day smoker. I swear I have some sort of mucus-related illness every five or six weeks. Ansan was worse, Cheonan was slightly better.
Is there anyplace on this length of ROK that has nice breathable air? Busan? Geoje? Jeju? The top of a mountain somewhere?

Yeah, Bundang. The place where tiberious lives feels like a street in Vancouver. |

With or without the "boil water" advisory? |

Bundang?
Land of forty-story Lotte Castles, just right next door to Seou, has fresh airl?
How is it possible?

The air is fresher, but the job market is definately less lucrative.
Also, there is a lot less to do outside of work.
Of course, this depends which area of Busan you are in. |

Do the air currents come into Busan off of the ocean, or do they blow from Busan onto the ocean? |

No offence to Tiberious, but forget Bundang. Instead, look to northern Seoul, where the air in many parts -- the hilly, green, forested parts -- is God-blessed and _seems_ much less polluted than the rest of the city. South of the river is off-the-scale nasty in terms of air quality and every other respect, but we already knew that.

You know, about two years ago I thought of launching a thread on this very same topic and same request. My future plans have changed a lot since then, so the answers are irrelevant to me now, but I'm still quite curious. I'm personally most comfortable living next to an ocean or a sea and have most of my life. I think, at some subconscious level, it helps give me a sense of location, bearing, direction and a surer footing. Mountains are a good though temporary substitute. But somewhere surrounded by nothing but land -- especially flat, unremarkable, monochromatic land -- would probably not do me any good.

It depends which part of the city you are in. If you are near the beach, you can feel the breeze coming in off the ocean most days. It's damn cold in winter sometimes, so it's not always a good thing.
I don't have any weather charts to post for you, sorry. I am just going from personal experience. |

I live less than 10 minutes by motorbike from a really pretty beach (and 7 minutes from an ugly one). In the late spring/summer/early fall it's awesome. Haven't been to the beach since the weather cooled down though.
I live in a city of about 250,000 so it's not total countryside. I like it and I've been happy here. I will probably move to Seoul next year though (because I want to study Korean and try living in the big city)
The air's pretty clean. (Slightly) cooler summers and warmer winters than up in Seoul. Beach parties rock. |

Give it up guys, the whole country is filthy.
Just you have to choose to what degree of filth you want to live in. Mine gets 3 out of 5 stars. |

You are right, Busan does get hit with the "yellow dust" in the Springtime as well. |

I was thinking of trying to land in Jeju City at one point, but I cant imagine it being anything but a ghost town in the non-tourist seasons.
