I am moving to Korea in a couple months and need to buy a laptop. I want to buy it in Canada. I am totally computer stupid. I can USE a computer but I have no idea what to look for when buying a laptop. There are so many to choose from, cheap, good and reliable is key.

My ideal laptop would be:

17' screen or bigger
hookups for a webcam, digital camera, mouse, printer, microphone, speakers (do I need speakers?) which I will probably buy in Korea

I want to be able email, play games and do some work on it.

Ability to download movies and other stuff, so I guess a lot of storage.

If it breaks down I would like to be able to get it fixed in Korea.

Compatiable with Korean voltage, internet lines etc.

I don't want to spend a huge amount.

Ya, see I am stupid. Can anyone recommend a good laptop that will suit my needs. I have heard MAC recommended on here many times but I am weary of MAC since I have no experience using one and don't know how good their technical support is.

Well,

you don't need to spend a lot to get what you want.

Your webcam, digi camera etc. will all hook up via webcam. You want at least 4 usb ports. Celeron M will do you fine for performance and onboard video will do just fine if you don't want to play any graphic intensive games. 512 megs of ram.

17" screen? Personally, I think this defeats the purpose of having a laptop. It's going to be a pain travelling with something with 17" screen and you won't ever lug it around while you're here. 15 inch wide screen is more than enough and just at the outer edge of what is conveniently carryable. 17" is outside of that edge. If screen size is important to you then I suggest you wait here and get a desktop, they aren't expensive in Korea.

I agree. A laptop with a 17" screen is just a wannabe desktop without the power.
