I'm new to Korea, I just got here from Canada. I came by myself, and dont know anyone.
I'm just curious what you guys do to kill the boredom, and loneliness when you first got here. I"m not the type to get home sick, cause well I've moved so much I've never really had a stable home. But I find I miss having friends around, who are into the same things as me. |

Are you the only foreign teacher at your school? If so, sucks to be you. My first contract I spent the majority of my off time drinking with coworkers. This time I spend the majority of my off time drinking with college students. I take long vacations where I meet up with old friends and drink. When I'm by myself, I frantically message people to go drinking with me and when they can't, I go to the fridge;
I also smoke a lot in Korea.
My "work day" is typically VERY boring, so I post a lot on the internet (mostly at eslcafe and thekimchipot). |

I am the only foreigner at my school.
I go to the bar by myself, it's not hard to meet people. I usually have someone talking to me before I can even have the first sip of a beer. |

How do you guys know which bars to go into? There are so many interesting looking bars around my neighborhood that I would like to pop into by myself but I dont know if its ok.........for example if they allow/like foreigners OR if its an overpriced hostess bar or something like that.
I just hate to put myself in an embarrassing situation. |

I usually only go in if I can see inside and it's not too busy, or if I'm really drunk I'll walk in.
Normally I just go have a sit at the bar order a beer, and the waitresses will start to chat with me, and within minutes I'll have some korean dudes trying to speak english, that usually keeps me entertained for an hour or two, lol |

| Yeah, being able to see the inside is good.......but so many places have dark windows or things obstructing the view- as well as all the cool looking places that are not on street level. |

ya, you cant see into the shops here. I also noticed the shops are either fucken sick, or retarded clean.
Just have a couple beers before going out then venture in, doing shit like that can be fun sometimes. Worst case scenario you get a little embarrassed chalk it up with all the other experiences in Korea

I'd recommend joining a gym. But if it's too far away, you'll definitely not be motivated to go when it gets freakin' cold out. When it gets too cold out, I know that I'll be buying World of Warcraft.
Why didn't you list your hobbies in your post? You should have said something like, "I miss having friends around who are into the same things like me. You know, like watching mold grow, listening to dentist music, and throwing snowballs at the elderly (best results during winter.)"
That way, there could be somone on here who's reading this thinking, "Hey, I like throwing snowballs at the elderly, too! I should befriend this person." You should have also said, "I'm new to (insert city)." That way, someone around your area might be interested in showing you around.
Er, good luck with your stay. |

Actually it's perfect there is a gym on my way to work, so I'm going to get a membership and go there everyday before work.
I enjoy beer, and long walks on the beach....

This may come off as kind of freaky but have you thought about taking up a Korean instrument?
I'm thinking about taking up the gayageum, and then when I get good at it, installing electric pick-ups and experimenting with wah-pedals and such.
The thing is, we have a gayageum class at my school, but I've been so busy with other things I haven't had time to consider it. But that may all change in the next few weeks.
Anyhow, something to think about. |

I would like to take guitar lessons while I'm here, but I doubt I could find any in my town.....
I am hoping to work more, so I can save more money while I'm here. |
