At 4:30 Friday afternoon I was told this coming Friday I will start to teach the two Grade 3 classes that I have never taught before. The principal wants me to teach them how to write a self-introduction for their university interviews. I'll have these students for 6 classes (I think).

Any thoughts, words of wisdom, guidance?

(I worked with two of these students already. It was painful because their writing skills in English were abominable. Basically I had to decipher each sentence and then propose what I thought they were saying and ask if that was in fact what they were saying. Sentence by sentence. I'm not looking forward to doing that for 70 students.)

So far, the only ideas for what should be in a self-introduction are Personal Background, Career Goals, and something about their Character. (The last one came from a K teacher.)

What about hobbies/interests/dreams/aspirations for the future? They could also talk about family and favorite things. They could speak of their travels, if any, also.

Here are a couple of links to good websites for speeches of Self-Introduction. I would suggest taking what is here, simplify the heck out of it, and make it a writing assignment for your class. Go ahead and have them make the speech in front of the class when done writing.

hope those help,
