Just found one funny movie review.

mirror.co.uk wrote:
DAVID EDWARDS ON THE NEW MOVIES

A MONSTER from the depths kidnaps a schoolgirl and takes her to its underwater lair in this quite dreadful Asian creature feature. In its native Korea, this has made 34m. But, remember, thats a country where they think its OK to eat dogs.

While hyperactive and inventive, The Host is also cheap and severely lacking in the plot department. Also, one thing a horror film simply cannot afford to be is boring thisll have you dropping your pick and mix as you nod off in the aisles.

Set in Seoul, a mysterious river-dwelling monster begins terrorising the local inhabitants before disappearing beneath the surface with a schoolgirl in its jaws. But the mega-mouthed mutant picked the wrong prey, with the girls relatives not about to let her go without a fight.

You can give The Host points for being quirky, but thats about as far as it goes with serious sag in the middle and some ghastly attempts at humour thatve got lost in translation. Monstrous.
Just a tabloid site? Smile

The Mirror is a disgusting centrist rag, Doggi. I'd much rather you did not embarrass my country by posting that.

Rule of thumb: if The Mirror doesn't like it, it must be good.

This movie is a must-see!

But the dogmeat comment is despicable.

I mean...this got past the editor?

What do they say of sucky Italian movies....."mind you, whilst this movie sucks, be sure to keep in mind the Italians think it's okay to eat veal and horse"?

Such stupidity ought to be a criminal offence!

I wouldn't use 'The Mirror' as toilet paper.

Besides the fact that it would probably leave inky marks on my posterior, it is as you rightly guessed a tabloid rag that panders to the lowest social and intellectual denominators. Really, you have no idea how low...

I mean, in the States people KNOW that the National Enquirer is a joke.

But some people in the UK actually think reading papers like 'The Mirror' makes them someone who is well informed and likes to keep abreast of world affairs.

After attempting to read a few pages of this sort of 'paper' I actually feel depressed and sickened. Possibly because it reminds me of everything I dislike about my country...

I haven't seen the movie so can't comment on that, but as other Brits have said, the mirror is a complete waste of ink and paper. Venus said he wouldn't wipe his arse with it - I'd like to say that I wouldn't even wrap up one of my cats turds in it! And I don't even have a cat!

I confess to reading The Sun and The Star online occasionally. I think the Right Wing tabloids have a great sense of humour (perhaps unwittingly much of the time Laughing ). The Sun is totally ingenious at headlines, for example, and a good old British sense of taking-the-piss out of everything. I find I must read The Sun to remind me of home's humour.

The Mirror, however, because it's Centrist or centre-left, is utterly humorless and without any redeaming qualities and all too often what you find in the sorry rag is the kind of sh*te in the OP. I'm not anti-left. I read The Guardian. That's because it's intelligent journalism and not snidy patronizing drivel.

You're kidding? Toilet jokes and the most obvious puns and sarcasm are not the only sources nor styes of humour prevelant in the Isles...

The type of British humour I aprreciate would be more along the lines of 'Have I got news for you;' 'The office' - which whilst very plebian in it's content and subject matter is not so in style...

Christ, I tried to think of a few more examples, but it's been a year since I've been back there... oh, I liked 'The League of Gentlemen...'

But yeah, I guess I'd take the elitist, twitty, pompous humor of the 'Have I got News...' guys over the bloody 'Sun.' That's the kind of humour and perhaps the only kind you'll find present in the minds of the types of guys who would beat the crap out of you in the pub if they saw you reading a book or found out you'd been to university...

You were joking...?

The godd old Currant Bun. The favoured read of football hooligans, bricklayers and general small-minded bigots everywhere. As read by those who think the Daily Mail contains too many long words.

Are you for real? My brother is a bricklayer and a football hooligan, and he's more likely to be reading the Financial Times checking up on the wads of cash he's got invested here, there and everywhere.

Whereas, most of todays university students are more likely to be buying the sun and the sport to put pictures of the naked girlies up on the bedroom walls in their halls of residence.

Okay, point taken. Laughing

Is 'working class humour' better? Total philistine humour? It's very funny at times and I know plenty of educated professionals who agree that The Sun is capable of excellent humour, although again maybe most of the time it's unintended?

Nah, come on you know all the students will have -

Taxi Driver / Raging Bull / Scarface

or

prints of popular artists like ooh, let me guess - Van Goh's 'Starry night...' Schiel's 'Four Trees' or Munch's 'The Scream.'

Or possible the 'Scream' rip off where it has the face of an alien with a spliff in it's mouth...

Oh, not to forget the various other assortment of dope smoking aliens ('Take me to your dealer...') or of course the pope or the Queen smoking dope. ('I like the pope, the pope smokes dope...') God...

Hmmm, I bet there's a new trend in G.W Bush posters in halls these days, only a hunch though, haven;t been inside a uni halls since 2001. More's the shame...

Okay, I admit, I had the 'Raging Bull' one. I did.

Lets hijack this thread anyway and turn it into a

'What is your least fave / most annoying student bedroom poster...?' Thread instead... come on what say you peeps...? Laughing

And if I may ask - did you actually partake of the fiendish weed, or were you a mere poseur?

I'll bet half the people that had that one had never had a toke in their lives. More power to them in that respect though... Cool

I smoked. I inhaled. I also had sexual relations with that woman.

I'd recommend watching the Royle Family (comedy about a working-class family in Manchester). 2DTV was good fun for taking the piss out of politicians, celebrities and Wayne Rooney.
