I love Korea, unfortunately it didn't start off like that. I came here and as any other newbie I quickly focused on the negative aspects of living in this country. I am sure lots of people have done that as well.

Yeah Yeah lots of the rants have a lot of truth to them and lots of the rants are also very biased because of certain individuals painting everyone in Korea the same color. (No pun intended)

I came to Korea to get away from my problems back home, I was severely depressed and lacked any ambition to do anything. High taxes, High insurance, career opportunities sucking, and just a general feeling of dreading my life there. Don't get me wrong I love Canada but I was unhappy there.

Now quickly approaching my 2 year anniversary I am loving this country more and more. My job rocks, I get a lot of time to myself and I don't have to be put in idiotic and embarrassing situations that the job back home had me in.

I like the fact food is cheap, well except for some things. I love the fact I pay 80 bucks a month and I can be in a gym for 5 hours if I want to. People don't bother me, I can do anything I want and no one is really gone stop me (well short of loosing my job or getting deported) I have no family or social obligation. I don't need to participate in any click or circle to feel appreciated or wanted.

I think this country has given me more freedom then Canada ever has. I love it here. I am loner I like being alone, I love not having to communicate with any one, and I for one love the language barrier.

But don't fool your self this country is monkey ass backwards. Shit done here is crazy and no one cares. Got to love that. I have a Brothel outside my Billa, 20 restaurants and all kinds of convenient things. Not that I use a brothel since I find most Korean females unattractive, and I wouldn't be able to order the service anyway, since my Korean is horrible.

Everyday in Korea is an adventure you never know what crazy shit will happen to you. I love that it keeps me going and really entrenches my ambitions to better myself as an individual.

I know my reasons seem a bit negative but honestly they are not. I have learned lots from the "Korean way". When and if I go back home this place will always hold a special place in my heart.

The worst thing about Korea that I can think of my be this forum its a shit hole for the most part.. But you know what its Korea and the Korean way is not to give a flying rats ass.

Whats your reasons for loving this Penninsula?

I have to agree with most of that. You're right in that this country is seriously fucked up but still such a convenient place. Even the bank machines shutting down at midnight is hardly a problem now that I have a Korean credit card. You're also right about how nice it is to have no family obligations. If I had to think of nationalities into which I had to have been born, Korea would be at the bottom of the list for the industrialised world. If reincarnation and karma are real the world's worst sinners will get re-born into Korean Christian fundamentalist families. However, in terms of places where it's a blast to be white and have a degree, this is it. I went out drinking and noraebanging with some of my younger co-workers last night and we got so drunk so quickly that we could all still get a full night's sleep and return to work refreshed today. My job is great and I love my co-workers and (99% of) my students. Apart from not finding Korean women attractive and not enjoying socialising with Koreans, I agree with the OP completely.

Few posts on this site get an audible laugh from me, but that was one of them.

I of course agree with the OP but disagree with the bit about wild, crazy shlt happening on a daily basis. This society is so tame, sometimes it's terrifically dull. Very little is truly eye-opening, good or bad. I neither think Korea is the shit hole people say nor the best country in the world by any stretch of the imagination. What Korea is is frightfully mundane with one or two extra-special finishing touches (which I shall not list for the hundredth time) that make it a great, dreadfully easy, country to live in. To answer the OP my reason for being happy other than subjective things like my job is the generally cheerful, helpful nature of Koreans. They're a pretty cheery, rosey-cheeked bunch.

Yes, it says he is secure, unlike the skittish co-dependence of the typical Korean that doesn't really know how to extract themselves from their mother's teat.

I believe OP has a significant other anyway, I believe he's alluded to it by mentioning Korean females are ugly (my paraphrase).
