I am not even kidding.

So, on Saturdays I go to Suwon... where the bar tenders still know me by name and there is always a selection of couches to sleep on.

But what about Fridays? What about Wednesday drinks? This is one of the largest cities in the world, and I am gonna die!

There must be other hagwons in the area. Do you know any? From a distance, Jamsil seems like a pretty happening place... until the sun goes down and all the shops close.

Do you work at a school that goes out on Friday nights? Do you know any wayguks in the area? Forward them to me because I have spent the last four friday nights checking out youtube.

yes yes yes... I know I can head to itewan or gangnam... but I get off at 10 and it will require a taxi ride home.... not a cheap one.

maybe I'm just a loser who deserves to drink by herself. Smile

itaewon or kangnam aren't very far from jamsil .... a taxi won't be very much. hongdae, on the other hand, would probably be 15-20,000.

when you move to a new city, no mater how big or happening it is, it takes a while to meet up with the right folks. my first 6 months in seoul were pretty uneventful ... i spent a lot of fridays sitting at home and watching a movie or going to bars in itaewon alone and striking up conversations with strangers (it's actually a decent way to meet people).

i also met some people from this board.

some people are stuck in schools with no foreigners. i'm sure if you keep inviting out some of the 13 people that you work with, eventually they will come around.

until then, show up at geckos at 8pm or so on a Wednesday night, get a pint of Cass for 2500 won and see what happens.

Check out Shincheon. It's only one stop away from Jamsil Station, it's cheap, and there are quite a few non-Koreans who go there.

Shincheon? Really? I'm pretty close to Jamsil as well (near munjeon), and I have pretty much no life on weekends.

I live in Shincheon, and it's pretty alive on weekends. There's one street that's got pretty much nothing but bars and restaurants. People are out all night. The bars stay open until the last person decides to go home. I usually see one or two foreigners about on weekends, but it is mostly Koreans. I however prefer this. When I go out in Itaewon it's too much like going out at home. I have to watch my bag and my drink, whereas here in Shincheon I don't really have to worry about any of that. It's all personal preference I guess Smile

Not much goes on around Chamsil station, though there are a couple of spots connected to the big Lotte building where you can sit for a beer.

That Shincheon is just a 10-15 minute walk up the road. Not as good as the Hongdae neighbor, Sinchon, but has a few places to go for sure.

Gulliver's is popular with a few forigners. I usually end up there when I'm in Seoul. It's near Shincheon on that street with all the bars.
