Fascist ideology requires a minority to serve as a focal point of fearmongering in order to maintain a feeling that people are banning together to fight a mutual enemy. It keeps people from realizing their leaders are scum who are only interested in maintaining their power base.

The standard explanation is that they tended toward occupations that Christian societies forbade or discouraged Christians from participating in, and that these occupations(banking being the most prominent) tended to be ones that are easily scapegoated for social and economic problems.

But in the middle east, I think it's mostly to do with Israel. The arabs have picked up on some aspects of European anti-semitism, but I don't think they'd have much interest in that in the first place if it wasn't for the perception that Israel is an attack and a humiliation upon the arab world.

come down from the towers of ivory folks....

there is a country, Iran, which had a very intense RELIGIOUS REVOLUTION a few decades ago, and is currently led by a MADMAN who espouses OPENLY the DESTRUCTION of an entire nation, Israel. This MADMAN is currently trying to acquire nuclear weapons......

If you, after having searched your soul deeply, have absolutely no problem with this state of affairs, by all means, study up on Nazi ideology, paste swastikas on your shoulders, and give the one-arm salute to your fellow travellers...

For you are destined for the trashheap of history.

I don't understand the title of this thread.

There apears to be a CNN crawl at the bottom of the screen.

So was this on CNN?

The jews were hated in Germany because they exploit people and would hoard money instead of cycling it back into society. They were know to be terribly cheap and refuse to offer a fair rate for anything. Jews were also often involved in seedy businesses like pimping, drugs, pornography and bootleg alcohol. By hoarding their money, they were able to corrupt public officials and create power structures. This is where zionism comes from. Zionists are the real focus of hate, not the religious jews. The Nazis hated zionists who were not interested in building Germany, but only enriching themselves and other zionists.

The Arabs hate the jews because of Israel. Plain and simple. Jerusalem is a holy place, and the zionists annexed it and subjugated the Palestinian people.

It was on CNN Headline Prime. The more conservative version of CNN that has lots of sports highlights, bimbo anchors and loudmouth pundits like Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace. Basically "Fox News light".

I think the answer is xenophobia. Most people have at least a little of it: distrust of anyone who is 'different' and Jews are religiously different, and sometimes ethnically different.

I agree. Most xenophobia is related to fear and as a wise Jedi once said fear leads to hatred.

Seriously though, most reasons for any kind of irrational hatred, whether it is toward jews, muslims or gays, are rationalisations of the fear of difference or the unknown. The basis for these fears is mostly imaginary.

Anti-semitism is a particularly notorious form of xenophobia because it has been around in various forms for at least 2,000 years.
